Royal Oak Retail Project Gets the Green Light
ByRoyal Oak, Mich.—The Royal Oak City Commission approved the zoning change necessary for the redevelopment of the former Northwood Shopping Center. Beaumont Health will transform the property at Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road into a 183,000-square-foot retail development. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer. Demolition, abatement and soil remediation of the old shopping center buildings and townhouses on the 15-acre property has already started.
The new project–located within walking distance from the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak–includes a grocery store, a five-story hotel and several restaurants. Exterior facilities include green space, landscape gardens and community gathering areas where festivals and fairs can be held. The development is slated for completion by the end of 2018…
