Enel Begins Construction on Peru’s Largest Wind Farm
ByEnel Green Power Peru (EGPP), a subsidiary of The Enel Group, started construction on Wayra, a 132-megawatt wind farm in Peru’s district of Marcona, Ica region. The facility is the company’s first wind project in the region and, upon completion, will be the country’s largest wind farm.
The Enel Group will invest roughly $165 million in to the construction of the wind project, which is expected to begin operation in the first half of 2018. Wayra has a 20-year electricity supply contract signed with Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines. The energy it produces will be delivered to the Peruvian transmission grid (SEIN) through the Poroma substation.
