This Wall Street Trader Walked Away From Millions To Build Apps

Right out of MIT, Nancy Hua became a successful algorithmic trader, coming up with complex mathematical bets for how the stock market would move. But after five years (and millions of dollars) working at quant trading firm Getco, Hua decided she couldn’t work in that world forever.

In 2013, she moved to Silicon Valley and started experimenting with apps. That experimentation led only to frustration—Hua felt she couldn’t build fast enough to create anything successful. It was hard enough to get people to find and try an app, and harder still to tell if they’re working. So, instead of continuing to struggle with that problem, she decided to solve it with her startup Apptimize…
